A short parable about being planted where you cannot grow, and the long way round to the soil that is yours. It begins with a tree that everyone agreed was a disappointment.
Five trees grow on Heritage Hill. Four of them belong there. The fifth has spent her whole life being measured against the others and always coming up short: the bad apple. She is not an apple. What she actually is, and what it takes to find out, is the rest of the book.

From the author
I spend my days helping people, and the places they work, find better soil. I wrote this as a story so the idea could travel past any office, to anyone old enough to wonder whether they are in the right place, or what kind of tree they really are. An orchard isn't five trees in the same soil. It's five trees in the right soil, close enough to grow together.
